Organize Yourself for Business Success
Part of setting yourself up for business success is to get yourself organized. It’s time to take a look at what is required to get yourself organized in a fashion that will support your success in a systematic way.
Keep a clear desk surface. Whether you actually have a desk, kitchen table, pop-up table, or a corner of a nightstand, keep it clear so that while you’re working there, nothing is on that surface, but what is required for that session of your business building. Make sure all distractions are gone such as unpaid bills and stacks of papers to be filed. Keeping your work area clear will assist in keeping your mind clear to focus on the task at hand.
Invest in a spiral bound notebook, even if you like to store information on your computer. Why? If the power goes out, or there’s a glitch in your computer, your business doesn’t have to stop. You can keep going by using your spiral notebook to keep track of names, numbers, and other information.
If you like to keep track of your business on the computer, that’s great. Lot’s of people prefer storing contact information, etc. on the computer, rather that keeping written copies. The point of having a spiral notebook is to make sure you can keep going no matter what. Having that notebook available for use will prove to be quite handy.
If you’re using a cordless phone, be sure your phone is in the cradle for proper charging each night. The same is true, if you’re using a cell phone. Make sure it’s charged each night so that you have full battery capability when you’re ready to use it.
Keep a corded phone available for your use, so that if any challenges occur with your cordless phone or cell phone, your business doesn’t stop. You can simply plug in your corded phone and keep moving forward.
Keep your headset handy at all times. What a wonderful tool and an absolute must! You can talk to people and have your hands free.
Make sure you have plenty of pens to write with next to your phone, in your car, in your purse, or in your briefcase. Always have something to write with and something to write on.
Familiarize yourself with your company’s website or your website so that you know what’s there and you can literally direct prospects or customers to it with your eyes shut.
Have your prospecting scripts available at all times. Always have them at your fingertips so that you’re not in the position of having to look for them. Why? You’re in business and you’re a professional, so be ready.
A storefront business owner wouldn’t constantly misplace his/her keys so that he/she couldn’t open the door for business. The same is true for you. Have your prospecting scripts available, so that when you’re business is ready to start, you’ll be right on track and you’ll know what to say.
Have a list of all important phone numbers by your phone. That means company numbers, your sponsor’s number, or any important numbers required to assist you in your business. Make a copy of those numbers and keep them in your car, in your purse, or briefcase too.
Get yourself organized so that you’re ready to do business with a prospect or a customer at any moment and even when you’re on the go! Clearing clutter that you physically see also clears clutter from the mind. So, here are a few questions to think about.
Does your purse require cleaning? If so, clean it out.
Does your briefcase require cleaning? If so, clean it out.
How about your car? Does it require cleaning? If so, time to clean it out.
The goal here is to assist you in feeling good about who you are and the business you’re building. And while it might seem like these suggestions have little to do with building a business, they have everything to do with becoming a success as an entrepreneur.
Remember, we’re not talking about a job; we’re talking about making a shift into the home-based business enterprise. And with that comes a different way of thinking, acting, and being in order to experience success.
Clutter drains energy. It drains the valuable energy you require to build your business. So the more clutter you remove, the more energy you have to devote to your business.
