The Balancing Act of a Home Business - Part 3
Mindset is the key in accomplishing goals and enjoying the process along the way. Sometimes our inner chatter can put a quick halt to the things we dream about doing in life. And that inner chatter can do it in such a way that we aren’t even aware of how things in our life seem to be spiraling down, until we’re in the middle of it.
A good daily plan of operation is a must to assist in achieving desired goals, whether they’re goals set for the day, month, or for the year. Yet, many people (myself included awhile back) don’t take the time to clearly plan what they desire to achieve in a step-by-step, day-by-day process. With an unclear focus, distractions get in the way; unplanned activities get in the way, and not knowing what to do next, gets in the way. Not being clear leads to frustration, disappointment, and confusion. When that happens, you are clearly out of balance and things in your life can often feel like they’re going backwards or spiraling down. It’s a most uncomfortable feeling and frustrating to say the least.
So, what do you do to restore balance?
Be specific on planning your activities daily. Plan specific times for business, family, friends, personal time, and whatever else you choose to achieve for yourself (i.e. writing a book, composing a song, writing poetry, volunteering, building your website, etc.). By the way, if there’s travel time included in any of your activities, be sure to schedule that as well.
Now, here’s the key to being successful with a daily plan…STICK TO IT!!
It’s great to write a beautiful detailed plan, but it is of no value if it’s left on a computer or in a drawer. Stick to that plan and it will bring unimaginable positive changes, seemingly over night. It only takes about thirty days to create a brand new, powerful habit!
It seems like a very simple thing to do, but don’t be fooled. It requires a strong and unwavering commitment to you to stick to it with no excuses. The true power of the daily method of operation is in the action of doing what’s planned at the time it’s planned. When the commitment is made and the plan is followed, you will find it’s one of the most powerful things you can do to change your life from where it is to where you desire it to go.
When I first started this process, I really thought it was a bit too rigid to plan so many aspects of my life on a daily schedule. I remember thinking, “Who plans their life on paper?”
It seemed to me to be inflexible and lacking the fun piece that I felt was important such as spontaneity. After one day of following my daily plan of operation, I learned that quite the opposite was true. Why?
Because I found by planning my life, I made time for the things that were important to me, including the fun things, and I didn’t have to leave them up to chance, which is what I was doing before. By sticking to a daily plan, I accomplished far more than I ever thought possible, and I felt GREAT about myself in the process. By the way, here’s the answer to “Who plans their life on paper?” Answer: Successful people do!
