When Confronting a Team Member

When confronting someone be sure to point out two or three positive characteristics about the person being confronted then communicate how important team support is to the overall goal of the team. Explain to them what their role is within the team and how others are counting on them. Have this conversation privately and make sure you maintain your positive attitude throughout.

At this point there is one very important factor to keep in mind…being self-employed is a voluntary position. In other words, this isn’t a job or a corporate position. You’re not the “Manager,” you are the LEADER! I have noticed that as many people achieve higher levels of success in our industry they have a tendency to begin to take on this, “I’m the boss” attitude and basically insinuate that their team members are nothing more than lackeys or paid servants. This is a business of FREE ENTERPRISE and people are here by choice and they can choose to leave and take their entire organizations with them if they feel their being treated unfairly.

Respect for your team, opportunity and for each individual will get you further than a self righteous attitude that we typically find in the corporate world most of us chose to leave behind.
